Job Description:

The successful applicant will possess a natural ability to lead a group and share their passion and knowledge about our local marine wildlife with guests from all over the world. The Wildlife Guide’s primary responsibility is to assist the captain in ensuring the safety of the passengers and the vessel, at the same time providing a trip of a lifetime and the best whale watching experience ever!

This will be a seasonal position that will start in April and finish at the end of October. surrounding islands; transforming our fleet of zodiacs d educating the public about the conservation of marine wildlife.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess a degree in Biology or be in the process of obtaining or have equal experience through practical work in a similar role. A background in biology is considered a great asset. The Wildlife Guide must have their Marine Emergency Duties A3 and Marine First Aid.

Responsibilities:

· Guide large groups of passengers on 3-5 hour whale watching tours aboard 12-passenger zodiacs and 38 to 47-passenger vessels

· Provide passengers with a safe, fun and educational experience while travelling through the Gulf and the San Juan Islands viewing marine wildlife

· Ensure vessels are tidy after each trip

· Report whale sightings information

· Support office staff with pre-trip and post-trip processes such as check-in and closing responsibilities

· Answer and assist with incoming telephone inquiries

· Assist guest and client issues and/or complaints with empathy with a focus on guest satisfaction and use Supervisor/Manager support when necessary

· Use point of the sale processing system to process trip payments and retail sales

· Foster a strong culture of health & safety

· Participate in the check-in process, ensuring a smooth experience for guests

· Receive phone bookings and record information accurately into the reservation system

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in marine mammals and local wildlife! We are looking for someone who is a highly motivated team player and will come into work every day ready to provide exceptional whale watch guiding, informative narration and support to passengers throughout the day. Individuals who can commit to the entire season (April to October) and are interested in returning for multiple seasons are preferred. Hired naturalists must learn material provided to be presented for passengers. Candidates without required certifications or marine biology experience who possess other relevant certifications, vital interpersonal skills and are willing to get certified may be considered.
