Position Available: 60 Ton Captain / Skipper

West Coast Aquatic Safaris based in Tofino, BC is seeking a full-time Captain and/or Skipper to operate vessels for its wildlife tours and private charters. Accommodation Available.

Principle Responsibilities:
• Safely operate 37-passenger catamaran & 12-passenger cabin cruiser
• Manage onboard marine crew and guests
• Provide guests with information about local wildlife, culture and geography
• Communicate with management and office
• General vessel maintenance
• Maintain vessel cleanliness and smooth operation
• Lead and participate in regular safety drills
• May be required to act as deckhand/naturalist on occasion Qualifications:
Limited 60 GT Masters or SVOP (Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Certificate)
• Domestic Vessel Safety previously known as MED A1&A2 (Marine Emergency Duties) or STCW Basic Safety
• Marine Basic First Aid or Equivalent
• Marine Medical Certificate
ROC-M or ROC-MC (Restricted Operator’s Certificate – Maritime Commercial)
SVMO (Small Vessel Machinery Operator) an asset

Location:  Tofino, BC

Position: SVOP Operator / Captain / Guide

Captain of WASCO (12 Passenger Vessel) or NANUQ (37 Passenger Vessel)

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Operate 12 passenger Cabin Cruiser and/or 37 passenger catamaran
  • Provide information about the local wildlife and culture to your passengers
  • Communicate with the front desk with regards to schedules and trips
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the assigned boat
  • Fulfill extra tasks when not taking a Safari (i.e. Construction, maintenance & general upkeep throughout the facility)
  • Work as a team player

Job Description

Duties:
· Operate 12 passenger vessels – zodiac and covered vessels
· Hosting clients pre/post trip and dealing with their concerns
· Ensure medical checks are performed
· Prepare people for being on the water
· Ensure floater suits are worn correctly
· Know how to use all onboard equipment
· Wear a PFD & carry emergency equipment at all times while on the water
· Lead group on an interpretive boat tour
· Operate marine tour in a safe manner
· Wash / Maintain / repair equipment
· Report vessel operation problems to supervisor
· Complete vessel log at end of the day.
· Fuel, oil and clean up after tour finished
· Maintain vessel in an orderly fashion
· Keep tie-up float clean and orderly adjacent to vessels
· Report all incidents and complete appropriate form
· Maintain a professional appearance and attitude
· Be knowledgeable about marine and terrestrial environment

Responsibilities
· Operate 12 passenger vessels – zodiac and covered vessels
· Lead interpretive marine-based tour programs
· Host clients pre/post trip and deal with their concerns
· Be knowledgeable about marine and terrestrial environment
· Operate marine vessels in a safe manner

Qualifications:
· SVOP
· Small Domestic Vessel – Basic Safety (SDV-BS)
· Marine Basic First Aid
· Restricted Operator Certificate (ROC-M)

Wage $17.50 – $22.00 per hr.
Accommodations may be provided for the right applicant.
