Hiring SVOP Boat Operator

Roe Environmental Inc. is seeking experienced commercial boat operators with
Small Vessel Operating Proficiency (SVOP) certification or higher to aid in delivering a Marine Mammal Monitoring Program for constructing a marine terminal at Woodfibre, on Howe Sound, near Squamish, BC.

Position to require shift work (e.g. 10 days on – 4 days off; 7 days on – 7 days off, etc.). Average
working days are likely to be up to 10-12 hours. Temporary contract from August 2024 to February 2025 with opportunity for continued full-time employment.

Position Requierments:

  • Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification or Transport Canada
    equivalent
  • Minimum five years of experience operating comparable commercial vessels in similar
    conditions
  • Drug and alcohol testing in keeping with Woodfibre LNG requirements

Preferred Capabilities:

  • Experience with boat operation in Howe Sound
  • Experience working on large-scale construction projects
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract.

Priority is given to candidates who meet the following:

  • Priority placement will be given to (1) Squamish Nation members and (2) Indigenous
    candidates with demonstrated experience, competency, and a good safety track record.
  • Level 1 First Aid

Compensation:

$35/hour – $38.00/hour based on experience and training
Overtime per provincial standards (1.5x over 8hrs, 2x over 12hrs)

Small Vessel Operator in Squamish

Santori Environmental is looking to hire a Vessel Operator to aid in the delivery of a Marine Mammal Monitoring Program in Squamish BC.

Boat operators will be responsible for the safe operation of boats to provide access to Marine
Mammal Observers and environmental technicians conduct visual observations for marine
mammals, deploy sensitive monitoring equipment, and conduct water quality monitoring.
Daily trips will be short in distance but will require long hours at sea.

Camp facilities will be available for non-local candidates, and daily transportation to/from the project site from Squamish will be available for local candidates.

Position likely to require extended shifts followed by extended time off (e.g. 10 days on – 4
days off; 7 days on – 7 days off, etc.). Normal working days are likely to be up to 10 hours.

Full-time, Commencing late September – early October 2023.

Requirements:

 Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification
 Experience in marine boat operation in Howe Sound
 Experience working on large-scale construction projects
 Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstrac
