Heritage Park is looking for an experienced individual to join our team.   Take the wheel of one of Park’s most iconic attractions as the captain of the S.S. Moyie. Haul up the anchor and work in the fresh air of the quarterdeck, sailing the Calgary Glenmore Reservoir multiple times every day! The Ship Captain ensures scheduled passenger service on the S.S. Moyie operates in a safe and efficient manner. Supervises staff and ensures the ship is operated in accordance with all government regulations and Heritage Park Policies. 

This is an annual seasonal full-time position role that runs from May to September.   

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Navigates the vessel in designated areas. 
  • Provides Customer service and information to passengers in a courteous and friendly manner, accepts tickets, and deal with any passenger problems. 
  • Maintains scheduled passenger service. 
  • Assess weather, vessel, and other conditions; Suspend service if passenger or vessel safety is at risk. 
  • Ensures the vessel is properly maintained, serviced, and repaired in accordance with Department of Transports standards and regulations, and that the vessel successfully passes inspections. 
  • Assists in the selection of staff and evaluates aspects of their job performance as required. 
  • Responsible for ensuring all pre- and post-season vessel preparations are completed. 
  • Schedules staff for private functions held on the vessel after regular Park hours. 
  • Provides support to the Reservoir Safety Patrol Boat by reporting problem situations and specifying their location. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 Education, Credentials and Experience 

  • Completion of High School 
  • Training in relevant areas of seamanship.  
  • Must hold a Minister’s certificate -Masters, Limited for a vessel of 60 gross tonnages or more. 
  • Three (3) years of job-related experience. 
  • Is well-versed and knowledgeable in marine safety procedures. 

 Skills: 

  • Strong supervisory skills, the ability to spot and solve problems, 
  • Excellent judgement and decision-making,  
  • Good verbal and written communication skills  
  • Health and safety-oriented attitude 

 Hours of work  

  • 40 hours per week. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.   
  • Must adhere to costume policies by wearing a designated costume provided by Heritage Park.

We are a commercial fishing company looking for a Chief mate for a 27m Mid Water Trawler for the upcoming fishing season. We fish in the coastal waters of B.C. off the west coast of Vancouver Island based in Ucluelet.

This is a full-time position offering competitive wages, with a benefits package available.

The ideal candidate Certification:

  • Fishing Master 4 or higher, or a 150 Ton Mate certificate or higher
  • ROC-MC
  • Pass a Transport Canada marine medical
  • Standard first aid
  • Commercial Fisher’s Registration Card

  • Be able to communicate effectively with Captain and Crew Hauling and setting net
  • Work as a team with other crew members
  • Having commercial fishing or Trawl experience is an asset, but not required

(7 Month Seasonal Contract)

Camp Jubilee Retreat and Conference Centre is situated on the scenic and majestic Indian Arm.  As Camp Jubilee is only accessible by water, we are looking to hire 1-2 Passenger Boat Captains (Full or Part-Time) for our busy 2022 season from April to October.

The successful applicant(s) will mainly shuttle children up to Camp Jubilee and back. We also offer Water Taxi and Tour services to the general public (through our operating partner Indian Arm Recreational Services Ltd). The vessels include 2-40 passenger vessels as well as a 12-passenger water taxi. The successful candidate will be a friendly, “hands-on” mariner who enjoys “Being on the Water” and has a keen interest in hosting and educating guests of all ages, especially children.

Required Certifications/Experience:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Qualified Captain with a minimum of a Masters Limited 60 Ton certification
    SVMO certification preferred
  • Minimum of Standard Marine First Aid/CPR C
  • Radio Operator certification (ROC-MC)
